No More Week is upon us once again, and this year it’s echoing across the UK with a powerful message: “NO MORE Silence.” From March 4th to 10th, we’re joining the global movement to end domestic violence and sexual assault, but with a focus on the challenges and resources specific to the UK.
In the UK, an estimated 2.3 million adults experienced domestic abuse in the year ending March 2020. That’s why breaking the silence is crucial. It allows us to challenge the stigma that often prevents survivors from seeking help and enables abusers to continue their harmful behaviour.
Here’s how you can participate in No More Week 2025 in the UK:
- Share Your Story or Support Someone Else’s: Platforms like Refuge and Women’s Aid provide safe spaces for sharing experiences. If someone confides in you, listen without judgment and offer support.
- Educate Yourself on UK Legislation: Familiarize yourself with laws like the Domestic Abuse Act 2021, which provides greater protection for victims. Understand the legal definitions of domestic abuse and sexual assault in the UK context.
- Support UK-Based Charities: Donate to or volunteer with organizations like Refuge, Women’s Aid, Respect, and The National Centre for Domestic Violence (NCDV). These organizations provide vital services to survivors and work tirelessly to end domestic violence and sexual assault in the UK.
- Attend UK Events: Look for local events hosted by charities, community groups, or universities. Many events will be taking place across the UK throughout No More Week.
- Spread Awareness on Social Media: Use the hashtag #NoMoreSilence and tag UK-specific organizations in your posts. Share resources from UK-based charities and government websites.
